THE AREA:
Chez Marthe is
situated within a small hamlet in the Vendéen countryside, perfect for
walking and cycling. Just 5 minutes' walk away is a lake with fishing and
boating, and with many picnic areas around its shores.
The village of St-Vincent-sur-Graon
is 2 minutes by car, with church, baker's, general store and two bars. About
10 minutes' drive away is the larger village of Moutiers-les-Mauxfaits
which has banks, post office, supermarkets, bars and a historic covered
market hall.
The county town of La Roche-sur-Yon is 15 minutes away and offers big
hypermarkets and shops, plus a large indoor shopping mall.
Vast sandy beaches with EC Blue
Flag award; the resort of La Tranche-sur-Mer is
15 minutes, Les Sables-d'Olonne 30 minutes, and La Rochelle 1
hour. There are many local places of interest, and the famous 'son et
lumière' of Le Puy-du-Fou and its day-time 'Grand Parc', Futuroscope, La
Venise Verte and the Ile de Ré are also within easy reach.
As this is the heart of the
Vendée's wine-producing area, there is a good selection of restaurants
nearby. This part of the coast - known as 'La Côte de Lumière' - is famous
for its long sunny days and its sunshine record second only to that of the
South of France.
